Dental Assisting
 

Registered Dental Assisting

An in-depth two-year program prepares students to become Registered Dental Assistants.  Training includes chair side, lab, x-ray, RDA examination preparation, and coronal polish. Instruction includes 400 hours of externship in a dental office. Upon completion of this program students will be eligible to take the RDA State Board Examination. The program combines:

  • Theory, lab work and on-the-job internships in local dental offices
  • Office procedures, management
  • Chair side assisting
  • X-rays and much more 

NOTE: Bus Transportation will NOT be provided to or from community work sites.

1080 hours for completion

Students: 
4 Semesters or 4 terms
Year round
3 hours (daily) - 8:00 -11:00 a.m.
or 12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. 

Adults: 
2 Semesters
6 hours (daily) - 8:00 -3:30 p.m.

Graduation Credits:
San Leandro High, Arroyo High and San Lorenzo High: 1 yr Science credit

Castro Valley High: 1 semester Science credit

State Department of Education Recognized Model Program

Eligibility:
High School juniors, seniors and adults All students must have a high school diploma or GED prior to completion of the program.

Requirement:
Adults must attend a R.O.P. orientation prior to registration and have taken a CPR-C course or possess a current certificate for health care providers that will be valid through the entire Dental course. Prior to site placement, all students are required to have a clear physical examination and TB clearance. Hepatitis B vaccination recommended. Adult Fees:
$50.00 registration
$50.00 - $100 - Physical TB, Rubella
$80.00 - textbooks
$195.00 lab fee
$125.00   - uniform, shoes, safety glasses (approximate costs)
