Careers in Education I & II
Psychology of Careers in Education

Advance College Credits:
This course participates in an articulation with Chabot College

Education is a “hot” career for the new millennium. A critical need for pre-school, elementary and secondary teachers exists throughout California. This course offers an introduction to occupations in childcare, elementary and middle school teaching.  Students learn:

  • Children's development and teaching techniques
  • Job and career opportunities in the education field
  • Safety precautions, school emergency procedures
  • Employment preparation
  • Growth & development of children
  • Valuable experience working in a variety of settings

Instruction will cover child growth and development, teaching strategies, age-appropriate activities, aids and equipment. On-the-job training at a childcare facility, pre-schools or elementary school sites will be an integral part of the program.  Students participate in an internship and assume a variety of teaching responsibilities during this training period.

2 semesters / 2 term
September to June
Advanced 2nd year available

Graduation Credits:
Meets the A-G, "g" elective

Eligibility:
High School juniors, seniors, and adults

Requirement:
Adults must attend a R.O.P. orientation prior to registration

Hours:
3 hours (daily)
8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
or 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
