Medical Occupations
 

The Health Academy Program is a comprehensive medical program offering instruction in a variety of professional health related careers. Training includes:

  • Medical Terminology
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • CPR/First Aid/vital signs
  • Career research/employment
  • MS Office Suite-MOUS
  • CMA-Certified Medical Administrative Assistant

This program provides the opportunity for eligible students to receive on-site training at local medical facilities.

Community classroom/Clinical Pre-requisites:
A physical examination, a TB skin test and verification of immunizations are necessary. A uniform or lab coat and shoes may need to be purchased. Students must provide their own transportation to the community/clinical sites

2 semesters/2 terms
August to June
Advanced 2nd year available

Graduation Credits:
Meets the graduation requirement at the following high schools:
Science: Castro Valley, Hayward, San Leandro, & San Lorenzo
Unified School Districts.
Health & Safety: San Leandro & San Lorenzo Unified School Districts

Approved for UC "g" entrance requirement

Advanced College Credits:
Medical Occupations Program participates in articulation with Chabot and Las Positas Colleges

Eligibility:
High School juniors, seniors and adults

Requirement:
Excellent attendance and maintain a 75% grade point average while in the Medical Occupations program.Call (510) 293-2920 or send an e-mail to:Cathy Thoni for additional information

Hours:
3 hours (daily)
8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
or 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. 
Costs:

$50.00 - $100.00 = Physical, TB, Rubella, hepatitis vaccine
$100.00 - lab fee
$35.00 - $  50.00 = Career
specific texts
$25.00 - $  50.00 = uniform / lab coat (estimate)
$ 64.00  = textbook
