What is the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)?
The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) of 2014 enacted a comprehensive youth employment program for serving eligible youth, ages 14-24, who face barriers to education, training, and employment.
- Career skill training
- Tutoring, study skills training, instruction, and dropout prevention
- Paid and unpaid work experience
- Leadership development opportunities
- Adult mentoring
- Support services, guidance and counseling
- Entrepreneural skills and financial literacy education
- Transition to postsecondary education
- Follow-up services for 12 months
- A low income individual
- Be at least 16 years of age at the time of enrollment
- Attend the Eden Area ROP
- Experience one or more of the following challenges:
- Basic Skills deficient
- Pregnant or parenting
- English Language Learner (ESL)
- At risk of dropping out of school
- Developmentally disabled
- Foster youth and/or emancipated youth
All youth enrolled in the WIOA youth initiative program will be required to participate in WIOA activites and services that meet their educational and employment goals. As you progress and complete the following phases in the youth program, you may receive support services that meet your individual educational and employment goals.
- Eligibility orientation
- Pre and post assessments
- Comprehensive case management services
- WIOA program elements
- WIOA goal attainments
- WIOA follow-ups
* Student participants will be expected to complete an internship for a minimum of 30 hours. Internship opportunities will be provided. Upon completion of their internship, and the expectations above, participants will be awarded a $1,000 stipend.
