AB1330The passage of AB 1330 (Furutani) adds the completion of a course in career technical education (CTE), as an alternative to the California high school graduation requirement that a pupil complete a course in visual or performing arts or foreign language. This law creates an option for local education agencies (LEAs) beginning in the 2012-13 school year. For LEAs looking for guidance implementing changes in response to this law, it is important to note that the bill does not require a governing board to adopt this option, nor does it require a board that does not currently offer CTE courses to create new programs. Additionally, once an LEAs begin offering the option, it may elect to stop offering the option at any time.
