Work-based Learning

Work-based learning (WBL) consists of a range of activities where students learn and develop workplace skills. Through WBL, students progress from awareness and exploration to career preparation and training. Typically, WBL experiences become more sophisticated as students develop more skills. These experiences include professional guest speakers, field trips, job shadows, service learning, internships, pre-apprenticeships, and competitions, among others.

Over the past seven years, the Eden Area ROP has enjoyed a strong working partnership with the Hayward, Castro Valley/Eden Area, and San Leandro Chambers of Commerce. They have helped introduce teachers and students to community partners who have helped students learn about careers, work opportunities, and job skills.

The Eden Area ROP coordinates WBL for our Hayward Center students as well as for career & technical education (CTE) pathway students at our partner district high schools.
