Dental Assisting
FIRST YEAR STUDENTS:
Dental Assisting I P introduces students to the fundamentals of dental assisting.
Students work independently, as well as collaboratively studying topics such as Infection Control, Dental Anatomy, Dental Charting, Clinical Sciences, and Dental Materials and Anatomy and Physiology.
Selection of skills and knowledge learned throughout the course:
- Plaque and Teeth whitening
- Making teeth impressions
- Conducting Fluoride treatments
- Conduction coronal polish treatments
- Taking X-rays
Students are prepared for entry-level employment as chairside dental assistants.
SECOND YEAR STUDENTS:
Dental Assisting II P expands on the principles and techniques presented in Dental Assisting I by delving into more advanced concepts.
Students will study more advanced concepts in dentistry and will be assessed through written exams and “hands-on” skills. Each student will complete a 6-week unpaid internship in a dental office in the community.
Selection of skills and knowledge learned throughout the course:
- Ethics and dental law
- Radiography
- Pharmacology
- Business management
- 400 hour externship at a dental office in the community.
Students are prepared for entry-level employment as chairside dental assistants.
CERTIFICATIONS AVAILABLE
* STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE CERTAIN REQUIREMENTS TO RECEIVE THE FOLLOW CERTIFICATIONS.

HIGH SCHOOL CREDITS
- Students receive a total of 30 elective credits
- SLUSD & SLZUSD students may receive a Health & Safety Credit (Must speak with school counselor)
- HUSD, SLUSD, & SLZUSD students may receive a Science Credit (Must speak with school counselor)
OTHER BENEFITS
